PA Ag. Sec. Wolff Given 2009 Award PDF Print E-mail
NATC AwardThe National Agribusiness Technology Center (NATC) is please to announce the selection of Pennsylvania's PA Herds (USA Herds) and PA Lims (USA Lims) software products as the "Best Available Technology" for enhanced protection of America's food supply. Developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, these software applications assist farmers and food safety regulators in keeping our food supply safe and disease free.  The software has proved so effective that seven other states have already adopted its use.

The Pennsylvania product was selected because its "comprehensive reporting, levels of security, and ability to easily adapt to local conditions."

Tonight we affirm to the nation that PA Secretary of Agriculture, Dennis Wolff, and his staff have brought food safety technology to a new level.  Their vision and stringent requirements were so far beyond what was currently available; a custom application was the only workable solution.  But it was designed to be flexible, so other states could use the software as well.  They took a Pennsylvania problem and developed a national solution.  This is a great accomplishment.

This is a great example of where Secretary Wolff and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture redefined a business process to accomplish the animal health needs of the department, while providing a usable solution to the private sector.  America's food supply will be safer and more secure because of the pioneering work done in Pennsylvania.

It is our pleasure to present Secretary Wolff with the 2009 National Best Available Agribusiness Technology Award.
